Prepare For Your Blood Test

Please wear comfortable clothing and let your clinician know if you need anything.

Fasting

Why do I need to fast?

Your test results may be influenced by what you eat. For instance, consuming sugary foods can temporarily elevate your blood sugar levels. Fasting before the test provides a baseline result that allows for consistent comparisons over time.

How do I fast?

Before your blood test, avoid eating or drinking anything (except water) for 12 hours, usually starting from 8 p.m. the night before. You can drink water, but skip juice, tea, or coffee. Also, refrain from smoking, chewing gum, or exercising, as these activities can affect the test results by stimulating your digestive system. Once the blood is collected, feel free to return to your regular diet."

Which blood tests need fasting?

The blood test that need fasting to provide an accurate result are cholesterol and glucose tests. If you have selected a blood test that includes these then please fast
